  Chapter 1

Heather looked at the phone in her hand. She hadn’t heard from Ryan in three days, and she wanted to talk to him. She had it all. She had looks. She had the brain. She had been getting a massage every day, but it wasn’t enough to relieve her tension. The fancy drinks and splurging on meals after a day’s work seemed empty without him there. He said he was busy, but she didn’t quite know what was going on. She knew that there was something that Ryan wasn’t telling her, and she wanted desperately to find out what it was.

She was back in her house with nothing to do. It was big, it was expensive, it was roomy, and it was empty. Heather couldn’t take it. She sat down with a glass of white wine, and started to turn the TV on. Heather didn’t even realize that she had finished off the glass and sunk into an uneasy sleep until she was woken up by a handsome face staring at her. It was Ryan, and her heart skipped a beat. She looked at him with a smile on her face.

“It’s been a while.” She finally croaked out with that smile on her face that she couldn’t really make go away. She was just so happy to see him again, and Ryan felt the same.

He looked down at the beauty before him and the love of his life, and his heart ached and stuttered at what he was going to have to do. His Alpha had made it clear on his last trip, and a werebear had to always listen to their Alpha, like it or not. The worse part was that he knew that it was for his own good. There had to be something real here, and this was the only way that anyone would know. He couldn’t stay with someone that could never accept him or join his pack. Half breeds were rare enough and hardly accepted. If his Alpha was willing to make an exception, he had to take the chance, even if it meant telling Heather sooner than he ever wanted to.

“I’ve missed you.” It was all he seemed to be able to say. All other words stuck in his throat, and he shook a little. Heather started to wake up, and the world became a little clearer. She could see that something was on his mind, and it was bothering him. Her first thought was too panic. What was wrong with the man she loved? The question kept repeating over and over in her head, and she had no answer for it.

“What is it? Did you get in trouble? I can make it go away. I have the money. The connections. Let me make it better. Please.” She begged him.

Everything came out in a blur, and her heart was pounding, she couldn’t imagine that something would make him look so afraid. There was nothing in her that didn’t want to soothe that fear away. It was something she wanted more than anything in the world. If she could see that pain and worry ease away from him, it would be enough to make her content. He shook his head, and it only made her heart pound more.

“We need to talk.” It was all he could get out. He didn’t know how to broach the subject. He hadn’t figured it out yet, and he watched as Heather went cold.

She seemed to withdraw into herself, as if something was about to shatter. To Heather, it felt like her world stopped. She waited for him to continue, and when Ryan didn’t she just looked at him pleadingly with a nod of her head. She sat up, and Ryan slid into the seat beside her as he took her hands with his.

“This isn’t a break up. This isn’t a joke. This is serious. You need to accept something. You need to know something. Heather, I love you, but you need to know that I’ve kept something from you.” He said with a lump in his throat, and it was all he could not to shake and tear away from the room. He was too scared of her reaction. He was too scared of losing the only real thing in his life, and Heather felt the same way.

“Tell me.” She said, and Heather seemed to have no emotion in her voice despite the way she shook, wondering what it could be.

“I’m not human.” It came out quicker than he wanted it to, and Heather nearly laughed.

“Is this a joke?” She said, the tension leaving her. Ryan was just being dramatic. As if what she needed was a joke, but she could forgive him for scaring her. His humor was part of what brightened her world and she settled into an easy smile, leaning against him. She realized that he wasn’t releasing the tension that racked his body, and she looked at him, waiting for an explanation to the joke. Ryan just shook his head as he looked down at Heather.

“I mean it. I’m not fully human. I’m a werebear.” He said, and the word was something he almost stuttered over. She looked at him, and he was frustrated. Ryan tore from the couch, almost making her fall over.

“You have to believe me.” He said, and it was almost pleadingly even though it came out in a growl. She looked at him. This man was her world, and he was clearly believing what he said.

“Show me?” It was all she could think to say. She knew in her heart that something serious was being said, but she didn’t even know what a werebear meant.

Was it some sort of gang? So many questions ran through her mind, but nothing seemed to fit, so she just looked at him. He shook his head, and he stepped back. With a thoughtful look on his face, he moved the coffee table out of the way, closing the blinds. He looked at her, and obviously he was still scared. Heather was glued to her seat as what she witnessed shouldn’t be possible, but there was no denying it.

  Chapter 2

Ryan took all his courage to change, and he felt his bones start to morph as hair grew from him, and teeth started to sharpen in his mouth. Right before her very eyes, her love started to transform into a bear, and she finally understood what he meant. Like a werewolf, but he was a bear. Heather’s heart was pounding. It was almost too much.

She thought that any moment she’d wake up, and if it really was real, she’d faint at any moment. She wasn’t sure what he expected of her. She had it all, all but him. She finally had someone to love, and they weren’t even human. Her entire world shook and spun, and she didn’t know why this was happening. She didn’t understand Ryan was telling her now. She watched as the bear transformed back into the man she loved, naked with his clothes shredded at his feet. Back in human form, he looked so innocent, so vulnerable. It made Heather want to go to him, hold him, but she was also scared.

“My Alpha, in my pack, the leader, he told me to tell you. I wanted to wait. Make it right.” He said, and everything was coming out too fast.

“He said you had to know now or we had to break up. Please, Heather. I don’t want to lose you.” He said breathlessly, and he shook. Ryan was fully exposed before her, and she shook her head. His heart seemed to fall, worrying that it was her rejecting him, but it wasn’t something that she could do.

“I don’t get it.” She said, and she looked at the man that seemed like he really could be the second half of her soul. She didn’t know why something like this was happening.

“Why?” she asked, as if Ryan could explain why he was something she could never be. He was a monster, and yet he was the person she loved. Her heart was torn, and her heart still hammered. She looked this perfect, chiseled body, knowing that she had lain with him, loved him, and still did. She still wanted to, and made her shake her head. She wasn’t sure she could accept this.

“I need to accept you to stay with you.” She said softly, and Ryan heard it. All he could do was nod, knowing that she was trying to wrap her head arou
nd the startling secret he had just dropped before her.

He hung his head, knowing it was probably too much to ask. She nodded to herself, but no words left Heather’s lips. She wasn’t sure she could accept this, but she was even less sure that she could just push the man she loved away, even if he had another half.

“Can you love me fully?” He said, and that spurred heather into action. She didn’t know what else to do. She was stumbling onto her feet, tripping over herself as she landed into his chest. She fell with a thud and groaned as his muscular arms wrapped around her form. She was always so frail in comparison and he placed a gentle kiss on the top of her head.

It made her heart ache more with the decision. She pushed the idea of making a decision away from her mind at the moment and she wrapped her arms around him. She nuzzled into his chest, and she could finally hear a hint of a growl in his groan. It was something she had been denying for a long time. Ryan knew the seriousness of the situation, but feeling her delicate form against him made him and the beast inside of him rage.

He started to harden against her stomach, and she knew the one thing at that moment that she wanted to do was to be wrapped around him. Heather didn’t take well to not getting what she wanted, and she leaned up to kiss him. She filled that kiss with all her uncertainty. She filled it with all of her hope. She filled it with her fear and her passion, and Ryan returned the kiss.

He was persistent, holding her to him as his lips crashed down on hers. His tongue begged entrance, and she allowed it. She knew that she could never deny him as she melted into the kiss. She swallowed his growls of ownership and he tightened his grip with every half panted moan as his hard cock throbbed against her stomach. She looked at him, pleading to forget about the decision before her.

He nodded a little, as if he understood the silent pleading that was between them. The silent deal that was forming. He ripped her dress away from her body like it was nothing, no longer holding back the strength that he had hid from her. He didn’t want to, and he didn’t care anymore that her heart was thudding from both fear and arousal. Her eyes begged for it. Her body open to him, and she nodded, telling him to continue as he made short work of her lingerie.

Soon they were naked together, laying on the ground with his knees in between hers, forcing them open so he could rub his cock up and down her slit. He leaned over to kiss her breasts. Sucking on the nipple, letting his slightly sharpened teeth graze it and causing her to arch and moan. She lost herself in the feeling of his rough, loving touch as she felt his cock start to rub up and down her slit. She arched, begging for more with every moan. Ryan was more than ready to give it to her.

  Chapter 3

Ryan started to push into her, feeling how ready she was for him. Heather lost herself into the feeling as he started to slowly feed every inch of his cock into her until he was balls deep and hitting the spot inside her that drove her wild. She could feel him pressing into her before pulling back again, starting to fuck her slowly as he tried to calm the beast that he had recently pulled out. He growled above her as he nipped her neck.

Heather turned her neck over, looking up at him with a smile on his face. She wanted to get lost in the bliss that was starting to overtake her with each thrust. She couldn’t help but to wrap her legs around the man she loved, and she could hear his growling above her. It was odd that she had never heard it before, but she realized that she had pushed it aside.

She nipped at his chest, trying to draw him back into the moment as she tried to push the thoughts away. One hand held him up as he thrust into Heather, making her cry out each time his cock went fully into her, causing her to moan. He tweaked and pulled at her nipple roughly, making her open her eyes and look at him before he kissed her again.

Ryan pulled back just enough to gaze into her eyes. Heather saw the beast in front of her, and she didn’t care. It was in the body of her wonderful, handsome Ryan who had caused her to cry out and moan and feel safe. It was too much, and she was so close to coming when he slowed down, keeping himself from coming into her too soon.

He pulled almost all the way out of her as she moaned. He could feel her pussy clenching on his cock head, and he loved the look of pleasure that flashed through her face, but the question still hung over them. It made him angry, and yet he couldn’t deny his arousal. He couldn’t deny how much it hurt that she didn’t answer, and with one hard push he was back inside of her, balls slapping against her ass before pulling out completely with another louder growl as his fingernails sharpened into claws.

She looked at him, scared, aroused and worried, all fighting for attention, but instead she pushed him on his back, starting to ride him as he tried to hold her hips carefully. She could feel his claws sinking into her flesh, pain mingling with pleasure as she took him all the way into her wet, waiting pussy as she ground against him. He fucked into her, thrusting each time that she came down, and watched her breasts bounce.

He wanted nothing more than to suck and lick at the nipples, kiss her troubles away, and he held her there for a moment, fully on his cock. He tried to settle the throbbing, knowing that as soon as this was done, and there would be the question that needed answering. It was an answer he wasn’t ready for. When he felt like his orgasm had slipped away just enough he loosened his grip as she began to bounce up and down on his cock again, making him moan in pleasure as he arched his back off the floor.

Heather leaned over him, kissing his lips as she started to fuck back against him. Both of them were meeting the other’s thrust, and it was too much. They could barely hold back, and she kissed him as if her life depended on it. She trailed a kiss down his angular jaw line. She trailed kisses down his neck, down his chest, and moaned as her growled right next to her ear. Soon enough she was flipped on her back again with him rutting into her.

It didn’t look like he’d be stopping this time as he took her wrists, taking them from his body as he held them above her head. The bear inside of him was clawing to the surface, and despite the human side of him wanting to stretch this out, the mating was becoming too much. He pushed his cock fully in and out of her. It slipped out, nudging her clit and driving her closer to the edge before he found her hole again, fucking into her harder than before.

Each thrust seemed impatient, almost punishing as she cried his name and started to send him over the edge. He growled hers right into her ear as she wrapped a leg around him, pulling him in closer to her as she started to clench and spasm around his large, thick cock. She screamed his name, arching into his chest as her wrists were pinned to the floor by his hard grip.

He closed his eyes as he started to come into her as she rode out her orgasm, fucking back against him as her pussy twitched around him. She could feel Ryan filling her up, one more time before she had to think of anything else, and too soon they both lay panting. Ryan rolled off of her, lying next to her on the floor. She was panting softly, still dazed from her orgasm as his cock began to soften.

Ryan glanced over at the beauty that made his life complete, and her heart ached as she was torn with the realization that what he said was real, and that she still loved him anyway. She couldn’t lose the man that made her life worth living or the passion that drove her to heights like this until she could barely breathe and had no chance of standing. It was too much, and she sighed before looking back at Ryan. It was like the entire world paused, and he waited for her to answer.

  Chapter 4

Ryan couldn’t handle it anymore. Tomorrow was their anniversary and even though the words were just on her lips he left the room. Heather was speechless, and she lay there on the floor in a daze. It was too much for her as she looked at him, and she felt like her heart was beating too hard in her chest all over again. She never expected to learn this.

She never expected to be left breathless on the floor or for Ryan to return with his pants on and an overnight bag in his hand even though the sun was just starting to come up. Before she could say anything, in his panic he ki
ssed her. It was passionate, searing everywhere his lips touched, and it was sad. He looked at her, and as she went to say something, too afraid it’d be something he didn’t want to hear, he put a finger to her lips.

“Tell me tomorrow. Before we go out to dinner. In the next few hours. Think. I’m begging you to think. I can’t hear it right now. Now with that part of me so close. Not with the fear of losing my mate.” He said in a hushed tone and in a rush as he tore out of the room, leaving her there breathless with weak knees and the words I love you on her lips. He didn’t know, and she only hoped that he’d return. She eventually found her way to the bedroom, getting up on shaking legs.

With sunlight streaming through the window and the sounds of birds singing, she went to bed, crawling under the expensive covers that they had bought together. She knew that he scared her now, and that this secret should mean the end of it. She knew she loved him though, and that was the end of the discussion to her.

Ryan had rushed out before she could say anything, and so she went to bed with an ache between her legs and an ache in her heart. All she could dream about was the man holding her down, fucking into her with more passion than he had in a while and more worry in his eyes than she ever cared to see. She fell asleep with a hand between her legs, hoping that he’d come back and take her all over again so she could whisper her answer into his ear.

Heather rubbed her sore clit, aching for him to be inside of her again even as his come dripped from her pussy, as she drifted off into blackness and finally found sleep. It was morning before she woke up again, shaking her head as she thought she heard his voice. She opened her eyes to dark brown ones staring back at her. Ryan sat at the edge of the bed, holding her hand as she slept, and fearing and hoping for her to wake up.
